155 Craps Craps is a game played with a pair of dice on a table. The dice have to be rolled with one hand. They have to bounce off the wall surrounding the table. A player („shooter“) wagers money against the bank. To start a round, the shooter makes a come-out roll. • A come-out roll of 2, 3 or 12 is called „craps“. The shooter loses. • A come-out roll of 7 or 11 is a „natural“. The shooter wins. • The other possible numbers on the come-out roll are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. If the shooter rolls one of these numbers, this establishes his „point“, and he enters the second phase of the round. In the second phase, the shooter makes point rolls until … • he rolls a 7, then he loses. • he hits the point value again before rolling a 7, then he wins. Any value of the dice that sum to the point will do; the shooter doesn‘t have to repeat the value combination of the come-out roll. • What kind of game is craps? • How many dice do you need to play craps? • Which phases can a round be divided into? Complete the sentence: A shooter enters the second phase of a round only if … • Calculate the probability … 1 to win on the come-out roll. 2 to lose on the come-out roll. 3 for establishing a „point“ on the come-out roll. • Right or wrong? A shooter wins in the second phase if he rolls an 11. • Which total number of point-rolls is the highest possible a shooter can expect to make? • Suppose a player is in the second phase. Calculate the probability of the following event: with his fi rst roll in this phase the shooter wins (loses).
